Rose-Marie Ormond - John Singer Sargent's niece

 

In 1918 Rose-Marie Ormond died at 24 years of age in Paris, France at the Church of St Gervais. Just before a Good Friday concert was about to start a German artillery shell landed on the church killing 91, mainly women, and wounding 68. Her husband, Robert, also was killed in 1914 during the war.

This painting which some would declare as being slightly pornographic was his only depiction of a female nude.
